It’s been a long time since I’ve written and I do apologize.\u00a0 You may remember that I had cataract surgery on both eyes a few months ago.\u00a0 Well, after the second one, my vision changed\u00a0quite a bit\u00a0and I’m still getting used to it. It may still improve so I’m trying to stay positive.\u00a0 In the meantime, I have to curb my computer usage because\u00a0my eyes\u00a0get very tired very quickly.\u00a0 (That’s led to a few withered crops on my farm on Facebook, let me tell you.)<\/p>\n

I’ve been trying\u00a0to use the new Smartlink FM system but haven’t had any luck\u00a0with that\u00a0so far.\u00a0\u00a0It’s a different brand from my hearing aids so it needs “boots” to make them work together.\u00a0 The boots unfortunately, are surprisingly\u00a0flimsy and poorly designed.\u00a0\u00a0I’ve only had\u00a0one day where the system did work and it was a wonderful day, but only one.<\/p>\n

Wonderful Audiologist\u00a0went to\u00a0Chigaco\u00a0to a conference\u00a0and\u00a0promised to try to find a way to get them to work for me.\u00a0 In the meantime,\u00a0the FM\u00a0system is\u00a0back at the manufacturers getting checked out.\u00a0 Siemens is coming out with a new device called the “Mini-Tek”\u00a0which may help the FM system work\u00a0with my hearing aids.\u00a0\u00a0I’m keeping\u00a0my hopes up – but not too high.<\/p>\n

Ahh technology!\u00a0 Well, I really\u00a0do have\u00a0more good technology news than bad to think about today.\u00a0(Who am I? I feel like I’m channeling David Pogue! \ud83d\ude09 )\u00a0Logitech brought out its next generation of security cameras and they’re far superior to the originals (which do work very well themselves.)\u00a0 The new ones are high def, have night vision and are easier to access on the web and\u00a0 I highly recommend them, especially for hearing impaired or deaf people.\u00a0 You can get a lot of peace of mind when you don’t know what you’re hearing (or not hearing)\u00a0and you can\u00a0check the cameras.<\/p>\n

I’ve also found a way to access my computers wherever I am.\u00a0 And, I can also do it through… tada… an iPad!\u00a0 Imagine this:\u00a0 Sitting in a car on the New York State Thruway, connected to my desktop at home or just connected to the Internet in general.\u00a0\u00a0There may not be much reason to do it, but you have to love that you can.\u00a0 Well, I guess you don’t have to, but I can’t help it.<\/p>\n

Technology has become very important to me since I lost my hearing.\u00a0 I can text anyone anywhere in the world instantly\u00a0and even people who don’t have hearing loss\u00a0text constantly.\u00a0 How much business is done via email?\u00a0\u00a0We don’t have to call 411 for information anymore – we can just\u00a0find it on the Internet.\u00a0\u00a0We can search anything we want to know and find answers immediately – even on a smartphone while standing in the middle of the street.\u00a0 Answers and information are at our fingertips.<\/p>\n

How else would we get the news before the TV and newspapers\u00a0print\/air it?\u00a0 How else would our cars nag us? (…<HUGE SIGH>..recalculating!)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0How else would we find menus for restaurants in every major city?\u00a0 How else would be buy movie tickets before even leaving for the theater?\u00a0 How else would\u00a0we hear\u00a0people talking about their farms?<\/p>\n

If you stop to think about it, it’s almost miraculous how connected we’ve all become.\u00a0\u00a0You’re out there reading this and we’ve\u00a0probably never met in person.\u00a0\u00a0Maybe you’re my\u00a0Facebook friend.\u00a0 \u00a0Maybe you’re even my Farm neighbor!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
